Job Description

Overview: Camp and Site Host volunteers provide services in partnership with Park Staff, and provide a readily available, hospitable presence in campgrounds and parks that enhance the safe, educational, and enjoyable experience of park visitors. Hosts receive a camp or host site in exchange for volunteer service. Service requirements are based on the needs of the park and require a minimum of 20 volunteer hours per week to remain in good standing. Camp and Site Hosts are trained at the park level and report directly to the Senior Maintenance Worker and Senior Park Ranger.

 

Essential Functions

  • Provide information and assistance to park visitors
  • Assist in maintenance, park operations, and/or interpretive program activities. Stock maps and brochures, provide visitor information, and maintain a clean park areaRequirements
  •  
  • Apply and register as a Long-term volunteer and participate in an informal interview
  • Submit and successfully pass a Live Scan fingerprinting background check
  • Complete required trainings including: Site Orientation Training; Sexual Harassment Prevention; First Aid/CPR; Radio training; County Driver’s Training; and any additional site-specific training required for the position
  • Available at least 5 days a week and most weekends and holidays to provide volunteer services
  • Possess a valid Driver’s License, current vehicle registration, and current vehicle insurance that meets the minimum State of California insurance requirements
  • Adhere to all County and Park Policies and Procedures, including the Camp and Site Host Guidelines
  • Wear Department-issued designated uniform while performing volunteer service
  • Must be 18 years of age or older

  •  
  • Visitor Services Tasks:
    • Greet and provide park information to visitors.
    • Assist in conducting interpretive programs.
    • Staff and maintain the park visitor center or kiosk.
    • Conduct daily Life Estate checks of perimeter fencing and gate and building locks.
    • Call for emergency services as required.
    • Report Daily Hours Survey in SCCVolunteer
    • Monitor after hours activities and report suspicious activities to the County.
    • Be helpful, courteous and accessible to all park visitors, neighbors and employees.
    • Maintenance Tasks:
    • Perform Life Estate and park-wide litter patrols, weed removal and maintenance, using tools provided such as litter sticks, garbage bags, gloves, hand tools, and gas-powered equipment such as line-trimmers and small mowers.
    • Perform minor repairs and grounds maintenance consistent with Camp Host’s experience and qualifications and training provided by Park staff.
    • Maintain Camp Host camp site in a clean and orderly condition at all times.
    • Allocation of Hours:
    • Maintenance Tasks: Minimum 5 hours per week
    • Operations/Guest Services Tasks: Minimum 10 hours per week
    • Unallocated: Minimum 5 hours per week in either Maintenance or Operations tasks based on seasonality and specific park needs
